Swiss Airlines to open direct route to Singapore
September 27, 2012
Starting May next year, Swiss Airlines will introduce a daily non-stop flight between Zurich and Singapore.
Swiss Airlines announced yesterday that it was adding a Singapore route to its network in May of next year.
The daily service between Zurich and Singapore will be operated using an Airbus A340-300 offering 219 seats.
Swiss used to serve Singapore until 2009, though this previous service was via Bangkok.
Singapore is one of Asia’s main business and economic hubs. The city-state has also been an ideal stopover for tourists flying between Europe and Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia.
The announcement comes only weeks after Dubai-based Emirates unveiled a partnership with Australian Qantas Airways, ending a long-term relationship between the Australian company and British Airways. Starting in April 2013,
European flights will be redirected via Dubai instead of Singapore.
