Alaska Airlines traffic rises in April

Alaska Airlines said on Thursday that April traffic rose 6.3%, boosting occupancy on its planes.
The Seattle-based airline said its flying capacity rose 3.1%. Because traffic rose faster than flying, its planes carried more passengers per flight. Occupancy rose 2.5 percentage points to 87.4%.
Through the first four months of the year, Alaska Airlines traffic has risen 6.6%, with flying capacity rising 3.4%. Occupancy has risen 2.6 percentage points to 86.2%.
The airline is owned by Alaska Air Group Inc., which also runs a regional flying company called Horizon Air. Horizon's April traffic fell 13.4%, and capacity fell 13.1%.
Load factor fell 0.2 percentage points to 76.4%. So far this year, Horizon traffic has fallen 14.1%, with capacity down 14.2%. Occupancy has risen 10.5 percentage points to 89.6%.
