Mexico Reports 7.1 Percent Increase in January Cruise Visitors

Mexico says it is the No. 1 one recipient of cruise lines in the world, with more than 1,800 cruise ships visiting in 2011, adding over $500 million to the country’s economy in revenue and jobs.

This year in January, Mexico has noted a 7.1 percent increase in cruise visits compared to the same month last year.

In addition to the 22.7 million global travelers that arrived in Mexico by air in 2011, an additional 5 million visited by cruise ship.

Mexico hopes to increase that even more. Officials from the Mexican Ministry of Tourism and the Mexico Tourism Board were in Miami last week at the Cruise Shipping Miami 2012 trade show and conference.
