Silversea Cruises Parent Buys Galapagos Cruise Company
June 19, 2012
The Silversea Group, parent of luxury operator Silversea Cruises, has purchased Canodros S.A., an Ecuadorian tourism company that operates the expedition ship Galapagos Explorer II in the Galapagos Islands.
Galapagos Explorer II will join the six-ship Silversea fleet in September of 2013 following a “major refurbishment” according to Silversea.
The 4,077-ton Galapagos Explorer II will be renamed upon its re-introduction. The ship will continue to be operated on its current itineraries by Canodros, which will also continue handling reservations and sales and marketing for the ship.
The Galapagos Explorer II features 50 suites with ocean views, 24 of which include private balconies. Public spaces include a restaurant, piano bar, library and Internet station, a main lounge, outdoor bar, two outdoor whirlpools, and a marine observation deck.
Silversea’s acquisition of Canodros will allow the company to expand its Silversea Expeditions brand and “offer the adventure traveler a broader portfolio of itineraries, encompassing some of the world's most desired and least explored regions,” according to Silversea.
Guests with Galapagos Explorer II bookings, as well as travel agents or tour operators with clients booked on the ship, should “continue to liaise through their normal channels with Canodros,” Silversea said.
