River cruise line Uniworld to launch another ship on Mekong
June 25, 2012

River line Uniworld is the latest company to announce an expansion in Mekong River cruises.

The Los Angeles-based operator of more than a dozen vessels says it will launch a second ship on the Mekong in 2013 in partnership with local operator Pandaw.

The 60-passenger River Orchid will be similar to the 60-passenger River Saigon, which Uniworld began operating on the Mekong in January 2012. Both are handcrafted in French colonial style, the line says.

Other North American-based river lines recently adding sailings on the Mekong include Avalon Waterways and AmaWaterways. The trips include stops in Vietnam and Cambodia. Read about Avalon's new Mekong cruises.

"The demand for Vietnam and Cambodia has exceeded our expectations," Uniworld president Guy Young said in announcing the expansion. "We quickly sold out all of our departures in 2012, and so it made sense for us to add an additional ship along the Mekong."

Uniworld also has announced plans for two new vessels for China's Yangtze River, the Century Legend and Century Paragon.
