Costa starts work on second Savona cruise terminal
June 7, 2012

Work has started on a €9 million second passenger terminal for Costa Cruises at Savona in Italy.

Construction is expected to take 15 months, with the new satellite terminal expected to open in September 2013.

Costa Cruises generated more than €5.5 million of direct economic impact in the Port of Savona in 2010 and almost €230 million in the region of Liguria as a whole, largely accounted for by work carried out on the ships in the fleet.

The second terminal will cover a total area of 3,500 square metres and will be connected to the existing facility, which was opened nine years ago.

A temporary structure currently used when three ships are in port at the same time will be moved to a new location.

Three Costa ships are scheduled to be docking on the same day in Savona 40 times in the next few months.
