Norwegian Cruise Line offers free upgrades

Norwegian Cruise Line today is kicking off a month-long promotion that includes free cabin upgrades.

'The Great Upgrade Event, as it's being called, brings up to a four-category upgrade and reduced deposits on sailings to Alaska, the Bahamas and Florida, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Canada/New England, Europe, Hawaii and the Mexican Riviera.

The promotion applies to cruises of three days or longer in 2013 and 2014, for bookings made by Aug. 12. As part of the offer, passengers will receive e-coupons worth up to $300 in on-board savings.

The promotion is valid for all Norwegian ships including the soon-to-debut Norwegian Breakaway, which is scheduled to start sailing in May 2013.

Under construction at a shipyard in Germany, the 4,100-passenger vessel will operate year-round from New York to Bermuda, the Bahamas, Florida and the Caribbean.
