Mexico Tourism Reports Increase in International Visitors, Spending

The Mexico Tourism Board announced this week that international visitors to the country spent $1.39 million in June, up 9.3 percent over June 2011.
The Secretary of Tourism further reported that the number of international visitor arrivals increased 11.7 percent over the same time last year, to more than 1.2 million.
Based on the number of international travelers checks issued by the Bank of Mexico, 952,000 international visitors arrived to Mexico by air and, for the first half of 2012, the average spend among international visitors increased 8.3 percent, an increase of 6.8 percent compared with June last year.
Also in June, Mexico received 1.9 million international visitors, a 2.6 percent increase over June last year. In the first six months of this year, 11.7 million international visitors arrived to Mexico and spent at least one night in Mexico.
