UK cruise market 'to double in size again' in 10 years
March 02, 2010
The UK’s biggest cruise operator has forecasted that the cruise market in this country will double in size – again – over the next 10 years.
The Cruise Report 2010, from Carnival UK, includes the prediction from Micky Arison, CEO of parent company Carnival Corporation.
Arison believes the growth to three million passengers a year – on the back of 100% growth to 1.55 million passengers in the last 10 years – will be driven by a wider range of cruises coming onto the market, as well as more shorter cruises from UK ports.
The report – the fifth such annual study from Carnival – also set out consumer research from retailer www.cruise.co.uk which suggested that more than one in four regular cruisers would cut their general spending to ensure that they could still afford their main cruise holiday.
The survey of almost 5,000 cruisers also found that more than one in three would rather pay less than they would normally budget for a cruise than not book one at all.
