Travel agent charged in New York over ticket fraud
April 5, 2010
The Manhattan District Attorney has charged an airline sales agent with issuing fake tickets.
Victoria Scardignp, a former sales agent for Continental Airlines at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, has been arrested on charges stemming from a $1 million scheme involving the sale of hundreds of false ticket vouchers.
The DA is alleging she used hundreds of vouchers that Continental would normally have used to compensate customers for travel cancellations or other situations in which customers were denied boarding.
Scardigno is alleged to have sold the vouchers to her customers, telling them they could redeem the vouchers for a round-trip ticket anywhere in the world.
Is believed 1,700 of the vouchers were sold at a price of approximately $500 to $600 each.
