Striking BA staff will lose travel benefits
March 16, 2010

Cabin crew who take part in the proposed British Airways (BA) strike will lose their eligibility for staff travel benefits.

The airline is at loggerheads with trade union Unite over pay and conditions, with three-day strikes currently planned to start on 20 March and 27 March.

BA offers staff free or discounted travel as part of its benefits package, but in a statement the airline said: “If a strike occurs, cabin crew taking part would lose their eligibility for staff travel benefits.”

Unite joint general secretary Tony Woodley said: “At the moment, [BA] does not want to consult, it wants war.”

“More than 13,000 staff could take part in the industrial action, although BA has also announced it plans to fly 60% of customers during the first planned strike.
