Oil Spill Won't Affect Travel Plans
May 27, 2010

According to a AAA survey, many people say the spill won't change their travel plans.

The state of Florida is doing everything it can to bring visitors to its beaches, even posting live beach cams to show no oil is washing up on its shores.

"We really want to stop happening what happened in the panhandle. The phones here need to keep ringing," said Carol Dover of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association.

For the phones to keep ringing, tourists need to know that their money will be well spent.

"In the back of their mind they're certainly thinking about those things, but at this point, they're not allowing it to stop their plans," said Dover.

According to AAA, 32.1 million people plan to hit the highways this Memorial Day weekend. Of those headed to Florida, close to 90 percent say they have no intention of changing their plans due to the oil spill.

Fifty-eight percent said they won't change their plans even as news of the spill develops and 13 percent surveyed who did change their plans did so for other reasons.
